TRAVEL and ACCOMMODATION

TRAVELLING TO AND FROM ICAD2016 IN CANBERRA

Visa Requirements

Unless you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, you will need a visa to enter Australia. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in the country. All other passport holders must apply for a visa before leaving home. You can apply for a range of visas, including tourist visas and working holiday visas, at your nearest Australian Consulate. You can also apply for certain types of visas online.

Arriving in Australia by Air

The nearest international airport is Sydney Airport.

Travel from Sydney to Canberra is usually by one of three methods:

  • Coach (RECOMMENDED).

Coach Travel time is approximately 3.5 hours depending on traffic. This is about equal to or less than the time taken to transfer between Sydney airports, airport security checks, flight to Canberra and then cab to the city. If you choose this (recommended) method, you'll get the opportunity to see some of rural NSW, or doze, as the mood takes you.

    • Murrays run a comfortable, hassle-free, very reasonably priced hourly Express Service between Sydney and Canberra (24/7 at the time of writing this). It picks up and sets down passengers in only two locations in Sydney: Central Railway Station (for those staying overnight in Sydney CBD) and Sydney International Airport (NB) and arrives and departs from one location in Canberra, their terminus at the Jolimont Centre, which is in walking distance of the Conference venue and accommodation.

    • Greyhound Australia also offer a service, though not as often.

  • Air. The domestic terminal in Sydney From the Sydney domestic air terminal in Sydney to Canberra Airport. Ground transport between the Sydney international and domestic terminals is available in the Arrivals halls of the Airports. Travel from Canberra Airport to the City and conference venue/accommodation is best undertaken by taxi, which should cost less that AUS$20. Uber taxis are common in Canberra. Consider.

  • Car Hire (several companies).

Coach Departure Point- Sydney International Airport

Leave the arrivals Hall and turn right, following the 'To Bus and Coach' sign. Walk to the end of the covered walkway and you will see the bus parking bays. Zooming in on the map above, these can be seen near the 'International Terminal' mark as white rectangles.
